Anchors Away on Anchorwoman

Anchorwoman Lauren JonesTired of reality shows that try to have some sort of class? Want your trashy TV to be up front and bold? Check out Anchorwoman, a new reality series from none other than FOX. Struggling KYTX in Tyler, Texas needs ratings. What better way to get them than to hire a blonde, babealicious bombshell? Enter , model, WWE Diva-wannabe, and ditzy hottie – and let the reality TV begin.

Okay, so she doesn’t have any experience with the news. No big deal…right? From the fast paced party scene of LA, Lauren arrives in the small Texas town with a tank top, stilettos, and an apparent burning desire to become an Anchorwoman. Horror-stricken, her new co-workers look on with confusion and concern. Existing anchor for the station Annalisa Petralia expresses her own feelings clearly – dislike, immediate and absolute. Petralia’s opinion of Lauren isn’t good, saying that the sexy blonde undermines the station’s credibility and her own personal reputation. The station manager does his best to mediate, gently suggested to Jones that she go get her jacket (cleavage doesn’t read too well on the evening news).

The show could be considered an intellectual commentary on how far society has fallen – even the news isn’t worth watching unless it boasts something sexy, fun, and entertaining for people who are so inundated with viewing options. But, this could only be considered the case if Jones was in on the joke – which, she isn’t. Instead, she assumes the dumb blonde role a little too well, causing a lot of eye-rolling among co-workers who are forced to participate in her newsroom training. Jones marches around on her Barbie heels with her bright hair, portraying a caricature that disgraces her entire gender.

Anchorwoman, however, is supposed to be in good fun. It’s meant to be a little bit of a joke – but FOX might get more laughs (at their expense) than what they bargained for. Want to see what happens when a TV network gives a bubble-headed model a prestigious job? Check out FOX on Wednesdays…if you dare.
