Lifetime Coming to Its End
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Cable, News
Some things can only last so long. A&E has just announced a deal to purchase the Lifetime Network—a deal which could herald yet another move for Project Runway.
The A&E acquisition will create few staffing changes at Lifetime Entertainment Services. A&E Television Networks is a partnership between Disney/ABC, Hearst Corp. and NBC Universal. The new merger changes only one thing: now, NBC Universal is part of the deal. Previously, Lifetime was a 50/50 partnership between Disney/ABC and Hearst. As a result of the new merger, A&E Network, Lifetime, the History Channel, Lifetime Movie Network, Bio, History International, Lifetime Real Women, History en Espanol, Military History and the Crime and Investigation Network will all be included in the new entity.

Project Runway to Air this Summer on Lifetime
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Bravo, Cable, News

Project Runway is finally back in style.
After months of litigation between NBC Universal (owner of Bravo), The Weinstein Company and Lifetime, the hit reality show now has somewhere to go. Starting this summer, Season 6 will air on Lifetime.
The trouble began last year when the move to the new cable channel was first announced. NBCU, upset by the loss of its popular program, filed a lawsuit. That action eventually led to countersuits and a preliminary injunction.
Today’s agreement means Runway will be at its second home for at least five seasons. “The Weinstein Company will pay NBCU for the right to move Project Runway to Lifetime. All of the parties are pleased with the outcome,” NBC Universal announced in statement.
No start date yet has been announced for the next installment. The Fashion Week finale was taped back in February.

LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian Heat Up LIfetime’s Ratings

I guess it’s like they say - there’s no such thing as bad publicity.
Those curious to see LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian’s on-screen action (we’ve already seen the off-screen version), gave Lifetime its best numbers of the year. Saturday’s premiere of Northern Lights, an adaptation of a Nora Roberts novel, was watched by approximately 4.5 million voyeurs. That’s the largest audience the cable channel has seen for one of its movies in 2009.
According to Us Weekly, the costars - both married - have been engaging in an affair since filming the project last fall. Although Cibrian has denied any wrongdoing, the country singer has only said that this is a “difficult time” for her and her loved ones.

Lifetime Renews Army Wives
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Cable, Ratings, Renewals
Lifetime announced yesterday that the hit show Army Wives will return for a fourth season in 2010. Eighteen episodes of the popular drama have been ordered, though the third season of the series has yet to premiere. Season three of the series will begin airing this June (it runs Sundays at 10pm EST).
Army Wives, which focuses on the life of four women whose husbands are actively serving in the military, is the most successful series for the network. The show first debuted on Lifetime in 2007, and during its run has featured guest appearances by Rumer Willis, Ana Ortiz and several others.
“This early pick-up - even prior to the season 3 premiere - is a true testament to our commitment and support of this great show,” Executive Vice President of Lifetime Networks, JoAnn Alfano, said in a statement. “We are confident that the best episodes are yet to come.”

Project Runway Carries On Without a Home
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Bravo, Cable, Gossip

As they say, the (fashion) show must go on.
Even though Lifetime and Bravo are still fighting over Project Runway’s future, production on the reality program has been going on as planned. For attendees of New York’s Fashion Week, that meant viewing collections from a bunch of unknown designers. Literally unknown.
At today’s Bryant Park taping, Season 6’s final three contestants got the opportunity to see their clothes on the runway. Unfortunately, unlike in seasons past, the designers weren’t allowed a chance to speak. Nor did anyone know whose creations they were. In an attempt to keep the outcome a surprise, the collections were presented to the audience blindly.
