The Diff’rent Strokes Curse

It’s hard to pinpoint just when the whispers began - though it’s widely-accepted that they started well before Dana Plato’s 1999 suicide. It’s possible the theory of the Diff’rent Strokes curse started in 1988, when Todd Bridges was tried for the murder of an alleged drug dealer. Gary Coleman made headlines the following year when he sued his parents for misappropriation of funds—and made more when he allegedly assaulted a woman in 1998. Dana Plato, broke and with no acting prospects in sight, began working at a dry cleaner’s in 1991.
If you look at each of their stories, particularly hours after Gary Coleman’s death, it’s not too hard to believe in the Diff’rent Strokes curse.

Janet Jackson, who appeared on several episodes of Diff’rent Strokes, will “remember him as the fun, playful, adorable and affectionate man he was. He has left a lasting legacy.” Gary Coleman initially met Janet when he appeared on Good Times, where Jackson starred as a series regular, in 1978.
Todd Bridges, who played Gary Coleman’s older brother Willis, also released a statement. “It’s a sad day. It’s sad that I’m the last kind alive from the show.”

Todd Bridges Death Rumors—Untrue!
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Everybody Hates Chris, Gossip, Internet, Rumors,
Hot on the heels of Sinbad’s false death reports, another death rumor is circulating. This time, it’s about Diff’rent Strokes and Everybody Hates Chris actor Todd Bridges. While Bridges has had his fair share of troubles in the past, there is no truth to the current rumors. The news started to spread after a New York radio station reported on the death of a truck driver named Shawn Bridges, who made a documentary of his downward spiral from drug abuse. And then like wildfire, the misunderstood details spread and a web site reported that Todd Bridges had passed away due to drugs. Family members tried to reach Bridges and panicked when they couldn’t track him down—he was shopping and had his cell phone on silent, but they eventually connected and everyone was relieved to hear that he is still among the living.
