America’s Next Top Model 11: Now You See Me, Now You Don’t

Even though it had been two weeks since the last original America’s Next Top Model, it was like no time had passed. Joslyn was still frustrated by her downhill slide, Sheena was still frustrated about not being considered “modelesque” and the unemotional Europeans (a.k.a Elina and Marjorie) were both still frustrated about being misunderstood.

For this week’s lesson, the remaining seven competitors got a chance to meet with Ron & Richard Harris. The twins – who were known for showing models how to twirl – were there to teach the girls about “selling” accessories. After a brief practice with some handbags, scarves and hats, the ladies were then told they’d be participating in an “avant-garde” fashion preview.

Even though fashion shows are a staple of ANTM, this was the first time the girls were required to become invisible. Before putting on their selections from the Petro Zillia line, the ladies had to first step into a head-to-toe green bodysuit. This body-masking element would allow only the models’ accessories to be seen on the large-screen TV.

ANTM'S Joslyn

Although she felt a tad bit claustrophobic in the skin-tight garment, Elina let the music guide her through her turn. (It’s easy to finally let go when no one can see your face.) McKey pulled a Samantha and spent way too much time fiddling with her garment. Marjorie stupidly didn’t realize her strapless dress had fallen down to her waist. (Again –she had a bodysuit covering her up.) Analeigh did a good job using her pearls as a prop. Samantha tried too hard to look versatile and spent most of her time taking on and off her jacket. Joslyn’s belt removal made her look like a stripper working a boa. Meanwhile, Sheena’s constant twirls (she was trying to give motion to her ruffles) made everyone else in the room feel nauseous.

After the mini-fashion show, Ann Shoket (Seventeen’s editor-in-chief) announced that Elina was deemed the best of the bunch. For her win, she and two of her friends (Marjorie and Analeigh) were given the opportunity to shoot a holiday fashion spread for the magazine.

Back at home, most of the roommates became involved in an extremely confusing household-dividing fight. Analeigh told Sam that she should be careful about offending people with her supposedly-funny accents…Sheena said they didn’t bother her…Marjorie made some sort of face…Sheena told the Europeans they should stop using immigration as an excuse for everything…Elina said she was tired of being criticized…Sheena then called Elina a hypocrite for accepting a Christmas shoot when she’s a non-holiday observing atheist. Did you get that all straight?

Instead of having the typical photo shoot of the week, the ladies discovered it was time to film their CoverGirl commercials. Cue an appearance from Cycle 10 winner from Whitney Thompson. (Sadly, their role model sounded as fake in person as she did during her spots last year.) Unlike previous seasons when the girls were forced to memorize lines they would eventually forget, the ladies were finally allowed to use teleprompters. The bad news? They would only get five takes total.

ANTM's Analeigh

Although I thought Samantha sounded a big strange, the blonde brought genuine energy to her shoot. Elina had no major fumbles, but her voice lacked inflection and believability. Sheena confidently “inked and slinked” her way through her promo. McKey, who had a very sultry-looking start, completely missed her marks. Marjorie, once again, let her nerves get the best of her and rushed through her spot. Joslyn – who threw up several times prior to her turn – managed to maintain a smile throughout. Unfortunately, the sick girl overcompensated by throwing on the cheese. Meanwhile, Analeigh was perfection from beginning to end. The engaging model mastered her props and looked comfortable the entire time.

At the next judges’ panel, the ladies found out which country ANTM would be visiting this year: Amsterdam. Unfortunately, only six of the remaining competitors would get a chance to sport some clogs – so which ones would it be?

When it came time for evaluations, Analeigh was chosen as this week’s winner. The judges felt her commercial was quite possibly the best one in the show’s history. Sheena and her fluid spot came in second while Samantha and her likeable promo came in third.

Falling in this week’s Bottom Two were Joslyn and Elina. Despite Joslyn’s brave attempt to work past her illness, the judges were still seeing a girl that was steadily going downhill. Meanwhile, Elina was a beautiful girl who couldn’t translate her beauty to moving pictures.

In the end, they apparently realized the European girl was probably the best person to take with them overseas. LOSER: Joslyn.
