ABC Cancels Katie Couric’s Talk Show

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, ABC, Cancellations, News,

Katie CouricAfter just two seasons on the air, Katie - Katie Couric's talk show - will be coming to an end.

Couric and Disney/ABC released a joint statement about the announcement, claiming that the cancellation was mutual between them: "We're very proud of everyone's contributions to making Katie the No. 1 new syndicated talk show of 2012-13 and we look forward to the rest of the season."

Although the talk show was one of the highest-rated programs that premiered in syndication last Fall 2012, subsequent ratings have not been too kind. Combined with the series' production costs, industry analysts point to these factors in the show's cancellation.

Katie is expected to finish out its second season, airing its final episode in June.

Couric left CBS News in 2011 to launch Katie and will now be heading over to Yahoo News next year to be their global anchor.

All My Children

It’s official: All My Children has been canceled. ABC delivered the news in a shocking double elimination, axing AMC and One Life to Live on the same day.

Kelly Ripa, who played Hayley Vaughan Santos on the series, has already released a statement. “All My Children means so much more to me than any place,” she said of the set where she and husband Mark Consuelos met. “We had our children there, it was a big part of our lives, and I think that to cancel a show that has been on television for so many years, what are you going to replace it with?”

Charlie Sheen Rant Cancels Two and Half Men Production

Charlie Sheen isn’t finished with the Two and Half Men producers -- not by a long shot. The troubled actor engaged in a well-publicized rant against the minds behind his CBS show in which he called Chuck Lorre a “stupid, stupid little man,” along with a few other things.

CBS immediately canceled production of the show for the reminder of the season, and potentially all eternity. Sheen, who is currently in the Bahamas, turned to TMZ again to respond to the news. In an open letter, he said Lorre “tried to use his words to judge and attempt to degrade me.”

Big Love Coming to a Big End

Big Love

Let’s hope TLC brings back the action, because it’s soon going to end on HBO. It was just announced that Big Love's upcoming fifth season will also double as its last.

According to the show’s producers, the decision to end the program was simply storyline-dictated.

“When we created Big Love in 2002, we had a strong conception of the journey the Henrickson family would make over the course of the series, of the story we had to tell,” creators Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer said in a statement. “While we were in the writers’ room this year shaping our fifth season, we discovered that we were approaching the culmination of that story.”

Mark and Will did offer fans some good news to help offset the disappoinment. “This coming January, we look forward to presenting our audience with the most vibrant and satisfying final season of a television series that we can produce,” the duo promised.

Big Love will begin its farewell on January 16.
