And here I thought Jay Leno and were friends.

Many viewers were probably a bit confused last night when they stayed up late to watch right after Nightline. Did they accidentally switch channels to NBC? Did their clocks go back an hour? No - that wasn’t Jay Leno they were seeing. That was actually Kimmel fronting his own show - the entire show - while dressed as his competitor.

“Hello, hello, my name is ...and let it hereby be known that I’m taking over all the shows in late night, beginning with this one,” the faux NBC host explained.

ABC Cancels More Adam Lambert Gigs

Adam Lambert on the American Music Awards

Looks like will be in ABC’s doghouse a little while longer.

The singer’s controversial number on the American Music Awards has already cost him a performance on GMA, now he’s lost two other gigs on that same network. Lambert’s previously scheduled appearance on the Dec. 17 broadcast of Jimmy Kimmel Live has just been dropped. A tentative booking on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve is off as well.

Taylor Lautner has just earned himself a spot on This Week in Unnecessary Censorship.

During a pre-taped interview for , the werewolf - who was joined by an animated (huh??) Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson - revealed the biggest hurdle in his quest for six-pack abs. It surprisingly had nothing to do with crunches. (At least, not that kind.)

Jay Leno’s Last Day Announced

What seemed so far off in the future has now been given a date. ‘s departure from The Tonight Show will happen on May 29, 2009.

This calendar announcement was announced earlier Monday by NBC. The news ended any speculation that the network might chicken out and keep the ratings winner in place a bit longer. Also solidifying the decision made years ago was the date chosen for ‘s time shift: June 1.

Jimmy Kimmel Gets Contract Extension

Jimmy KimmelBack in February, Sarah Silverman helped boyfriend Jimmy Kimmel celebrate his show’s 5-year anniversary with a special video. Now it looks like she may have reason to give him another gift.

While NBC is prepping to give an early boot, ABC is working to keep its late-night host around a little longer. The network has just announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live! will remain on the air through at least 2010.

This news comes as Kimmel’s popularity has seen some growth. In addition to his popular YouTube videos, the comedian has hosted a number of pre- and post-event specials (NBA, Oscars). He even traveled cross-country for a whole week when he co-hosted Live with Regis and Kelly in New York while continuing with his regular job in LA.
