Friday Ratings: CW Actually Posts a Win
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Sci-Fi/Horror, Specials, Sports, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Ratings,
Okay - so it wasn’t exactly a win. And it really wasn’t by much. But this is the first time I can recall ever saying CW was tied for the lead in the overnight demos. (It shared the honor with ABC.) CBS, meanwhile, was yesterday’s most-watched network.
8pm
- Ghost Whisperer* (1.0/4 in 18-49) had 5.1 million spooked.
- Approximately 4.9 million laughed along with America’s Funniest Home Videos* (1.4/6).
- Most Outrageous Moments* (3.93 million, 1.1/4) was down about a 1/2 million.
- Friday Night Smackdown (3.86 million, 1.3/5) pumped up 3.86 million.
- FOX‘s airing of Hollywood Homicide (0.9/3) pulled in 3.49 million.

Sunday Ratings: New England Patriots Win for CBS
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Animation, Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, Sports, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Desperate Housewives, Family Guy, News, Ratings,
Despite a great turnout from ABC’s lineup, a heavily-watched Cowboys/Patriots game kicked off a winning night for CBS.
7pm
- The late-running football game scored 26.4 million viewers (9.3 rating/27 share in 18-49) for CBS in the 7pm hour.
- America’s Funniest Home Videos (7.7 million, 2.1/6) didn’t really stand a chance.
- CW Now and Online Nation were mere blips on the screen.
8pm
- 60 Minutes (17.4 million, 4.2/11 in 18-49) benefitted from it’s strong sports lead-in.
- Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (12.2 million, 4.3/11) slightly beat the news program in the demos.
- Between 8-11pm EST, NBC’s Sunday Night Football (9.2 million, 3.9/10) had a dramatic drop from last week.
- CW’s Life is Wild (1 million, 0.3/1) barely factored in the equation losing another 600,000 viewers.
9pm
- Desperate Housewives (18.5 million, 7.3/17 in 18-49) won the hour in both numbers and demos.
- Cold Case (3.5/8 in demo) came in second with 14.7 million viewers.
- A repeat of Family Guy (7.1 million, 3.5/8) rounded off the hour.
10pm
- Up 500,000 viewers, Brothers & Sisters (4.8/13 in 18-49) took a victory in in both key categories.
- Shark (12 million, 2.9/7) was also up this week.
ABC Renews Three Reality Programs
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Prime Time, Reality, ABC, Renewals,
Three ABC reality programs have been picked up for additional seasons—maybe one of your favorites was among the bunch?
First, America’s Funniest Home Videos will be making another return for, get this, its eighteenth season. Unbelievable that it’s been on so long. And even more unbelievable to me—how people getting hit in the crotch passes for a funny video? I don’t know about you, but I always feel bad for the people who are hurt. But hey, if you’ve got a shot at earning money for your pain, why not go for it?
Wife Swap will also return, marking its fourth season. This show is so strange to me because I don’t know why anyone would want to switch and play mommy to another family. Call me crazy. Especially since some of the families on this show are nuts.
Supernanny also returns for a fourth season, and, of the lot of these renewals, this is the one I really enjoy. The nanny on this show has heaps of credibility, mainly because of her accent. I mean, did you see Mary Poppins? Jo Frost (pictured right) has got the nanny air about her. Seriously though, she seems to have the touch and I often wonder what kind of nanny miracles she could work on my rambunctious kids.
