Taylor Lautner has just earned himself a spot on This Week in Unnecessary Censorship.
During a pre-taped interview for Jimmy Kimmel Live, the werewolf - who was joined by an animated (huh??) Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson - revealed the biggest hurdle in his quest for six-pack abs. It surprisingly had nothing to do with crunches. (At least, not that kind.)

Tom Cruise Throws Jimmy Kimmel Into the Fire

Those of you able to stay up past yesterday’s 3 1/2-hour Oscars ceremony might have caught the Jimmy Kimmel Live! special. If not, you missed an hilarious bit between Cruise and Kimmel.
What would Jimmy to do get an actor on his show? What would Tom do if someone intentionally burned down his home?

The 60th Primetime Emmy Awards

Even though the previous television season was marred by the annoying writers’ strike, I find myself really excited for the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards. Not only will this ceremony give us a chance to start anew, it’ll be the academy’s chance to celebrate what’s new.
Tonight, two basic cable shows (Damages, Mad Men) will get a chance to win for Outstanding Drama Series. (That would be an Emmy first.) Meanwhile, nominees in several categories will have an opportunity to compete in a Sopranos-less environment. An added bonus? A new category. This year, reality show hosts will finally be acknowledged for their programming contributions as well.

Jay Leno’s Last Day Announced

What seemed so far off in the future has now been given a date. Jay Leno‘s departure from The Tonight Show will happen on May 29, 2009.
This calendar announcement was announced earlier Monday by NBC. The news ended any speculation that the network might chicken out and keep the ratings winner in place a bit longer. Also solidifying the decision made years ago was the date chosen for Conan O’Brien‘s time shift: June 1.

Tuesday Ratings: America’s Got Talent Does Well for NBC

Despite the disappointments delivered by reality fare this summer (and the presence of basketball game last night), NBC managed to have a great evening with the debut of America’s Got Talent. The show helped the Peacock Network nab a win in the viewers while ABC had a hold on the demos.
8pm
- Deal or No Deal (2.1/7 in 18-49) kicked off NBC’s night with 8.7 million.
- Jimmy Kimmel (2.6/9) warmed up 7.6 million basketball fans; the NBA pre-game show (3.3/10) drew in 8.5 million.
- The Moment of Truth (5.8 million, 2.4/8) was down 200,000.
- AFI’s 10 Top 10 (1.3/4) had 5.5 million movie lovers reminiscing.
- Beauty and the Geek* (0.5/2) trailed behind with 1.2 million.

Jimmy Kimmel Gets Contract Extension

Back in February, Sarah Silverman helped boyfriend Jimmy Kimmel celebrate his show’s 5-year anniversary with a special video. Now it looks like she may have reason to give him another gift.
While NBC is prepping to give Jay Leno an early boot, ABC is working to keep its late-night host around a little longer. The network has just announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live! will remain on the air through at least 2010.
This news comes as Kimmel’s popularity has seen some growth. In addition to his popular YouTube videos, the comedian has hosted a number of pre- and post-event specials (NBA, Oscars). He even traveled cross-country for a whole week when he co-hosted Live with Regis and Kelly in New York while continuing with his regular job in LA.

Sunday Ratings: Theater Awards Don’t Translate to TV

Although Tony Awards telecasts have never been ratings goldmines, last night’s event had to compete with golf and basketball. Yesterday’s contest between the Celtics and the Lakers gave ABC another win in both the viewers and the demos.
8pm
- NBC‘s coverage of the U.S. Open (3.9/13 in-18-49) attracted 13.8 million golf fans.
- Jimmy Kimmel‘s special (8.2 million, 3.2/11) did 800,000 better than last Sunday; the NBA pre-game show (9.8 million, 4.0/12) grew by 1.9 million.
- Approximately 6.2 million theater lovers watched the 2008 Tony Awards (1.1/3).
- The Simpsons* (3.7 million, 1.8/6) was down by 400,000; King of the Hill* (3.6 million, 1.7/5) slipped by 300,000.
- Everybody Hates Chris* (1.1 million, 0.4/1) and Aliens in America* (1.1 million, 0.4/1) turned out similar numbers.

Thursday Ratings: Basketball Courts the Fans

- Jimmy Kimmel (2.9/10) kicked off the basketball coverage with 7.8 million; the NBA pre-game special (8.2 million, 3.2/11) grew from there.
- Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (1.8/6) tested 6.1 million.
- My Name is Earl* (1.1/4) had 3.5 million entertained.
- Smallville* (1.9 million, 0.8/3) did slightly better than before.

- The Simpsons* (4.1 million, 1.9/6) was down by 400,000; King of the Hill* (3.9 million, 1.8/5) only lost 100,000.
- Everybody Hates Chris* (904,000, 0.3/1) was off by 16,000; Aliens in America* (1 million, 0.4/1) was actually up 120,000.
