State of the Union: Done With the Past
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Specials, Video,
For the second time in his presidency, President Barack Obama stood before the nation to deliver the State of the Union on Tuesday night. Many viewers had the option of skipping the speech because it was leaked online some two hours before the president took his podium. In the Information Age, nothing is sacred.
Obama opened by mentioning the Tucson tragedy, calling attention to the grim, empty seat within the chamber. But he quickly moved forward in the speech, talking at length about America’s greatness and spirit of innovation. It all felt a little empty … until Obama broke the ice with his first really great joke.
“I have heard rumors that a few of you still have concerns about our new health care law.” It came a little late into the speech, but it was the line that united the room. Laughter is much more heartfelt than forced applause, and at last the President of the United States was off and running.

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Music, Prime Time, FOX, Gossip, News,
First, the World Series. Next stop—the White House.
Glee may deal with issues like premarital sex, teenage pregnancy and homosexuality, but that doesn’t mean the program isn’t welcome in the President’s household. In fact, First Lady Michelle Obama and her children reportedly love the show so much, they’ve invited the cast to perform at their Pennsylvania Avenue address.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the show’s cast has just been asked to sing at the White House’s annual Easter Egg Roll. Although the April 5th event would mean some schedule shifting, the program’s producers are more than willing to accommodate the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

How Does the White House Do Iron Chef?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Food & Home, Prime Time, Reality, Cable, Gossip,
One of the Food Network’s most intense cooking competitions will soon move to Washington, D.C. Address: 1600 Pennsylvania. First Lady Michelle Obama has invited Iron Chef America to compete in the House’s kitchens, featuring ingredients from the property’s own vegetable garden.
In the episode, Mrs. Obama will take over the Chairman’s responsibility of unveiling the secret ingredient. The chefs to be featured on the episode include Bobby Flay, Mario Batali and Emeril Lagasse. White House chef Cristeta Comerford will also compete. The biggest disappointment of this - and really, it’s a great idea - is the fact that Morimoto won’t be featured. Bummer.

Michelle Obama Takes a Walk on Sesame Street
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Kids, PBS, Video,
That large white residence at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue might be impressive, but it’s not the most exciting place Michelle Obama‘s been to this year. Earlier this week, the First Lady reached out to children everywhere with a PSA she recorded on Sesame Street. The clip, which also features that oh-so-cute red guy, stresses the importance of good eating.
An ecstatic Obama shared her joy with diplomats and staff members at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations. “I’m thrilled to be here, but I was just at Sesame Street—I’m sorry. And I never thought I’d be on Sesame Street with Elmo and Big Bird and I was thrilled. I’m still thrilled. I’m on a high,” she said. “I think it’s probably the best thing I’ve done so far in the White House. But we were there talking about nutrition and healthy eating, and it’s just been a thrill.”
Obama is not the first FLOTUS to appear on the classic children’s program. Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton have both guested as well.

Michelle Obama Gets Her 30 Rock Invite
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, Gossip,
Emmy award-winning 30 Rock has already welcomed a big box office earner (Jennifer Aniston), an influential celebrity (Oprah Winfrey) and a former Vice President (Al Gore). So why shouldn’t they expect to get the current First Lady as well?
At the recent premiere of his movie Lymelife, star Alec Baldwin said he’s already has visions for Jack Donaghy post-Salma Hayek. “I think my character falls in love with Michelle Obama, of course,” Baldwin told Hollyscoop.
When asked why he’d court Michelle for the show rather than her husband (the President is familiar with NBC programming, after all), Alec said it would simply be nice to change things up a bit. “The President is on TV every day, all day. So we want to get something different,” he explained.
Season 3 of 30 Rock will conclude on May 7th.

Deal or No Deal’s President Bush Appearance
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Games, Prime Time, Talk Shows, NBC, Gossip,
Given all the airtime the Bush family is being given on NBC this week, you’d think they were either up for re-election or they were promoting a movie about bees.
On Tuesday, First Lady Laura Bush will not only make an appearance the Today show, she will be guest-hosting for an entire hour. One of her two daughters, Jenna Bush, will also be making joining her mother for a quick hello.
But visits to the Peacock network will not be limited to just the ladies. On Monday night, President George Bush will be making a primetime cameo on Deal or No Deal. In a pre-taped message, Bush will cheer on an Army captain who is going for the million dollar prize.
So what will it be next? A visit from the actual president on Saturday Night Live? Now that would be Must See TV.

Laura Bush to Guest Host Today Show
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Talk Shows, NBC, News,
While next Tuesday’s political activity will focus on our country’s future, NBC will be spending that morning chatting with the current ladies of the White House.
Next week on Today, First Lady Laura Bush will be spending an hour as a “guest host” of the morning program. During the 9 A.M. segment of show, Bush will participate in several segments and give viewers a tour of the family ranch in Texas. She will also use some of her allotted time to plug Read All About It! - a new book she co-wrote with her daughter Jenna.
With her husband soon to be out of office, I guess it’s good she has something to fall back on.
