Idol: Coming Soon to a City Near You

American Idol logo The American Idol summer tour has officially been announced. In case you just can’t get enough of Idol, here’s your chance to catch the top 10 finalists performing live. I don’t want to get too down on Idol, but at this point, I just want the whole thing to be over. Not sure I could endure a live show after a very long season. Finishing in the top 10 definitely has its perks though—they’re booked for 56 shows—so their 10 minutes of fame could get a nice little extension (I’m looking at you, Sanjaya). Check out Melinda Doolittle, Chris Sligh, Gina Glocksen, Sanjaya Malakar, Haley Scarnato, Phil Stacey, Lakisha Jones, Blake Lewis, Chris Richardson and Jordin Sparks at a city near you! Tickets go on sale on May 19th. Visit the American Idol web site for tour infomation.

Another Week, Another Idol Dream Shattered

American Idol Season 6 Finalists When it comes to the singers on American Idol, everyone is an armchair judge. Though even the most avid fans will admit that sometimes Simon Cowell is a little cruel and unusual with contestants, he is also usually right in what he says. Last week’s elimination round saw the end to long-legged Haley Scarnato, whom Simon said during the first weeks of competition was “forgettable.” During her last few weeks on the show, it wasn’t Hayley’s voice that got notice from judges and fans alike – it was what she had going on (or off) below the waist. Fans weren’t the only ones noticing how skimpy Hayley’s outfits became – even Simon Cowell said it was a good idea for her to show off those legs. Hayley spoke about Simon’s comments and her own wardrobe choices to Ryan Seacrest during his radio show: “It’s just a costume, I would never wear that out on the street or anything…If my dad can handle it and my fiancé can handle it, then I’m not overstepping anything.” But it is interesting to note that Hayley, whether intentionally or otherwise, took the advice of the trio who host TVGuide Channel’s Idol Chat. On the air, hosts stated that Hayley’s got great legs – “she should show them off.” The very next week, Hayley was doing just that. Could be a coincidence. What’s not coincidental was Hayley’s elimination, which occurred after her rendition of “Turn the Beat Around” last week. Her departure has led to all sorts of conjecture on which Idol will be the next to get the boot.

American Idol: Season 6 Finals - Week One

IdolOkay – am I the only who thinks that Diana Ross is getting a lot of free publicity thanks to Dreamgirls?  The Oscars have already come and gone…yet thanks to American Idol, we’ll still be talking about her after tonight’s ‘theme’ show.

Yes, yes, yes…Diana Ross and The Supremes were a great group.  But are we really prepared to hear male interpretations of their songs?  And more importantly, we will have to endure Sanjaya singing Baby Love?

As always, Week 1 tends to start off a shaky note.  Read on to see if Season 6 was the exception:
