Could the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards be another year for firsts?
Around this same time last September, the execs of basic cable were thrilled to see one of their own finally win the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series (Mad Men). Meanwhile, producers of reality fare saw an award given to one of their hosts (Jeff Probst). So which other category could be covered during this round? Animation.
For the first time since 1961 (when The Flintstones were still on air), an animated program has been nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series. So will Family Guy finally go where The Simpsons has never gone before? Not if the six other contenders have anything to say about it!
So who won? Who lost? Which funnyman took home the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor since Jeremy Piven wasn’t even nominated? Read our West Coast play-by-play account of this evening’s telecast and find out!

Wednesday Ratings: Red Sox Score More Than Homeruns
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Kids, Prime Time, Reality, Sports, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, America’s Next Top Model, Ratings,
Both ABC and CBS had to take a back seat to baseball last night. Game 1 of the World Series was a huge ratings victory for FOX.
8pm
- Approximately 16.7 million fans rallied for the Red Sox/Rockies game (5.6/14 in 18-49 demo).
- Pushing Daisies (9.4 million, 3.0/8) wilted a bit from last week.
- The debut of Phenomenon (8.4 million, 2.9/8) underperformed Deal or No Deal’s usual numbers, but it remained close to Daisies in the demos.
- Kid Nation (8 million, 2.5/7) was slightly up from last Wednesday; America’s Next Top Model (4.7 million, 2.3/6) was slightly down.
9pm
- Both Criminal Minds (14.9 million, 3.9/19 in 18-49) and Private Practice (11.8 million, 4.5/11) remained even with last week.
- Bionic Woman (7.8 million, 3.3/8) saw another decline.
- Gossip Girl (1.2/3) held steady from last Wednesday.
10pm
- CSI: NY (13.6 million, 3.8/10 in 18-49) took the hour’s viewers and demos.
- Dirty Sexy Money (8.6 million, 3.2/8) pretty much repeated last week.
- Life (6.8 million, 2.5/6) was at least consistent; it lost viewers (900,000) again.

‘Private Practice’ Gets Picked Up
Posted by David Onda Categories: Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Editorial, News, Ratings, Renewals, Rumors,
I didn’t think there was a chance in hell that the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off Private Practice would make it halfway through the fall season. Let’s face it, spin-offs of hit network shows are rarely the gems that their inspirations were (i.e. Friends spin-off Joey). But the unthinkable has happened for Kate Walsh’s Oceanside practice—it has been picked up for a full season by ABC. Already a few episodes into the season, Practice is still averaging 12 million viewers. In addition to this news, TV Guide is reporting that Gilmore Girls’ David Sutcliffe will join the cast as Addison’s love interest, throwing a monkey-wrench in the developing relationship between she and Tim Daly’s Dr. Finch character. Practice is the second new fall show to be picked up. The first is the nightmarishly obnoxious CW show, Gossip Girl—proving that not all shows that get picked up don’t make you want to vomit. But that’s a story for another day.
