Kathy Griffin’s Comedy: Out of Control?

What was a routine New Year’s Eve segment turned into much more when hecklers, a live mic and were thrown into the mix. Since the camera had cut away to go to commercial during Griffin’s comments, it’s highly likely the comedienne thought she was off the air.

Does that make her comments okay? Either way, Griffin lashed out at a bystander in the crowd. While her comments were likely meant to be amusing, it’s doubtful the audience thought anything she said was funny. “Screw you!” The redhead screamed at an onlooker, not shown by the cameras, before she proceeded to make her vulgar comment (heard in entirety in the clip above).

The Lohan vs. Cooper Battle Continues

Anderson CooperEarlier this week on Live with Regis and Kelly, guest host Anderson Cooper offered his unedited opinions about the “train wreck” also known as Living Lohan. (You can view that hilarious segment here.)

In addition to calling the Lohan clan “horrific people,” he said that Ali Lohan was “allegedly a 14-year-old girl” who “looks to be about 60.” (For the record, I completely agree with that remark.)

And as Cooper had predicted, it didn’t take long before Dina Lohan offered her response to the journalist’s comments. (After all, that’s how she makes her money. She picks up the phone and makes sure statements are retracted.) Later that day, the mama bear told OK! that the “cruel” anchor would get it in the end. “This is bad karma for him.”

When ABC’s first hit TVs in 2001, Survivor was ruling the network roost for reality TV. The Mole‘s highly complicated and manipulative game won viewers over until 2004, after the series had started featuring celebrities. It’s been gone for about four years - that’s a whole lot of viewing seasons. So why is ABC bringing The Mole back now?

Hosted by in the beginning seasons, The Mole showed off beautiful locales and intense challenges. The premise of the show is that a single contestant - placed there by the producers - is there to sabotage all the others. But only that one person, you see, really knows who the saboteur is. Everyone tries to guess the identity of The Mole, while some masquerade as The Mole to throw the others off. Even the viewers have no idea who The Mole is, which turns all of us into sideline detectives.

Reality Renewals: ‘The Mole’ and ‘The Two Coreys’

The Two CoreysAt what point did become less about Arts and more about Entertainment?  The cable channel - which already boasts quality programs like - has just chosen to bring back the , starring and .  (Apparently it takes more than one season for those Lost Boys to talk about their glory years.) 

This spring, the horribly-painful-to-watch series promies to bring “more drama, tension and laughs as they struggle to make their relationship and careers work.”  Wasn’t that the theme last year?  I’d think it would be safe to blame the for this renewed interest in their sad lives.  As much as I enjoyed watching Haim cry about not having a girlfriend in his life, I don’t think I could do it again.  Well, maybe….

Meanwhile, is dusting off one of their own reality classics: .  (I don’t think that revival will ever reach -proportions.)  The only reason I fondly remember the series was because it brought into the primetime spotlight long before he was deemed a credible news source.  (Prior to that, I had been admiring him during the pre-dawn hours on .)

Angelina Jolie“Angelina Jolie: Her Mission and Motherhood” on Anderson Cooper 360 was such a refreshing celebrity interview. Gossip magazine fans may have been disappointed by the lack of discussion and pictures of Brad and the new baby, but her choice to focus on the horrific conditions around the world that she is devoted to fighting brought me to tears. Compared to Britney Spears in tears last week over too much media attention, Angelina chose to use that media power to change the world. It may be a little sad that we as an American public need a celebrity name attached to a news show in order to bring our attention to world hunger, genocide, and the AIDS crisis, but what will define us now is what we choose to do about it. Angelina is an inspiration, as a celebrity, but more importantly, as a human being.
