Friday Ratings: Show of Support for Farrah’s Story

NBC’s documentary about Farrah Fawcett’s cancer struggle put up a good fight against a string of finales. Although the Eye network was a winner with the viewers, the Peacock tied CBS in the demos.

8pm

• Approximately 8.9 million watched Ghost Whisperer‘s season ender (2.0/8 in 18-49).
• America’s Funniest Home Videos (1.6/6) had 5.6 million chuckling.
• Dateline (1.3/5) registered 5.3 million.
• Prison Break‘s series finale (1.2/5) said goodbye to 3.3 million.
• The Game (0.9/4) averaged 1.9 million over an hour.

Tuesday Ratings: House, Repeats Top the Night

Thanks to a nice showing from House, FOX was able to nab the demos last night. Unfortunately, the network still couldn’t completely overpower a slate of repeats on CBS.

8pm

• NCIS* (14.1 million, 2.7/7 in 18-49) was Wednesday’s most-watched show.
• House (13.9 million, 5.6/15) had the evening’s best demo performance.
• The Biggest Loser: Families (9.2 million, 3.6/9) raised 500,000.
• A special America’s Funniest Home Videos (2.0/5) had 7.3 million laughing.
• 90210* (1.2 million, 0.6/1) did the same as last week.

• Chuck (NBC, 8pm):  Season 2 premiere. “Chuck mixes it up with a formidable operative (Michael Clarke Duncan) out to obtain a device that would potentially give rise to a new Intersect.” Thankfully, he knows a girl from Wienerlicious who can take the big guy down.
• Heroes (NBC, 9pm):  “Peter looks to the past to stop the future.” Is going back to Season Two an option?
• 100 Greatest Hip Hop Songs (VH1, 9pm):  “A five-part countdown of the Top 100 hip hop songs.” Because when I think hip hop, I think VH1.
• Life (NBC, 10pm):  Season 2 premiere. “Crews and Reese track a serial killer who’s placing victims in numbered trunks around the city.” Ooh—I love scavenger hunts!

Friday Ratings: CBS and ABC Split Lackluster Evening

This past Friday, the networks didn’t give the viewers much to choose from. (That will, thankfully, change in just a few short weeks.) The tight race ended with an ABC win in the demos and a CBS victory with the viewers.

8pm

• Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (5.9 million, 1.3/5 in 18-49) plummeted by 1 million.
• America’s Funniest Home Videos* (1.5/6) averaged 5.5 million over two hours.
• Ghost Whisperer* (5.3 million, 1.4/5) shed 400,000.
• Friday Night Smackdown (4.4 million, 1.4/5) was up by 200,000.
• America’s Toughest Jobs (3.3 million, 1.1/4) did about the same as last week.

Friday Ratings: Cancer Takes a Back Seat to 5th Graders

Despite being a star-studded, newsworthy event, the Stand Up 2 Cancer special wound up falling behind an episode of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?. Thanks to split coverage between ABC, NBC and CBS, FOX was easily Friday night’s winner in both categories.

8pm

• The debut of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (2.0/7 in 18-49) scored 7.6 million.
• Friday Night Smackdown (4.7 million, 1.4/5) grew by 1 million.
• ABC‘s coverage of the cancer special (0.9/3) pulled in 3.8 million.
• The Stand Up 2 Cancer event raked in 3.3 million (0.8/3) for NBC.
• CBS’ fundraising hour (0.7/3) registered 3.2 million.

Friday Ratings: CW Actually Posts a Win

Okay - so it wasn’t exactly a win. And it really wasn’t by much. But this is the first time I can recall ever saying CW was tied for the lead in the overnight demos. (It shared the honor with ABC.) CBS, meanwhile, was yesterday’s most-watched network.

• Ghost Whisperer* (1.0/4 in 18-49) had 5.1 million spooked.
• Approximately 4.9 million laughed along with America’s Funniest Home Videos* (1.4/6).
• Most Outrageous Moments* (3.93 million, 1.1/4) was down about a 1/2 million.
• Friday Night Smackdown (3.86 million, 1.3/5) pumped up 3.86 million.
• FOX‘s airing of Hollywood Homicide (0.9/3) pulled in 3.49 million.

Friday Ratings: CBS Finales Close on a Win

CBS’ usually strong lineup racked up another weekend win.  The network placed first in both the viewers and the demos with ABC right behind in second.

• Ghost Whisperer (2.0/8 in 18-49) ended its season with 8.4 million.
• America’s Funniest Home Videos (1.7/6) had 6.8 million laughing.
• Friday Night Smackdown (4 million, 1.2/4) was down a smidge.
• FOX‘s airing of Dodgeball (2.8 million, 1.2/4) was down 600,000 compared to last week’s movie.
• A repeat of American Gladiators* (0.9/3) only had 2.5 million fired up.

• American Gladiators (NBC, 8pm):  Season Two premiere includes new gladiators (‘Rocket’ and ‘Jet’).  Seriously, how intimidating could a smiling Gladiator be?
• Bones (FOX, 8pm):  “When the body of an aspiring singer (Ace Young of American Idol) is discovered, Booth and Brennan probe a club’s open-mike night.”  Uhh—which one was Ace again?
• Gossip Girl (CW, 8pm):  “An embarrassed Serena resurrects some troubling old habits as she continues to hide the truth from Dan.”  If he only knew she’d been sharing her jeans with three other girls.
• How I Met Your Mother (CBS, 8:30pm):  “Britney Spears returns as Abby, who is now dating Barney.”  First Robin Sparkles, now Britney.  I’m not sure if that’s a step up or down for Barney.
