Monday Ratings: Viewers Go for the Laughs on CBS

Despite a Charlie Brown special and Boston Legal finale on ABC, CBS’ comedies continued to show growth last night. The network’s first three programs had their best numbers all season while Worst Week had its best performance since the premiere.

8pm

• A Charlie Brown Christmas (3.8/10 in 18-49) drew in 11.4 million for ABC.
• The Big Bang Theory (10.8 million, 3.7/10) was up 2.8 million since last week; How I Met Your Mother (10.5 million, 4.2/11) added on 2.5 million.
• Chuck (6.9 million, 2.4/6) lost 400,000.
• Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (5.2 million, 1.8/5) was down 600,000.
• Gossip Girl (3 million, 1.5/4) did about the same.

MONDAY 12/8)

• A Charlie Brown Christmas (ABC, 8pm):  “The gang mounts a holiday pageant as Charlie Brown bemoans Yuletide commercialism.” Sorry, Charlie. Not much has changed since 1965.
• Boston Legal (ABC, 9pm):  Series finale. “Financial problems may force Crane Poole & Schmidt to be put up for sale.” If the economy keeps going the way it’s going, that might not be the only thing ABC has up for sale.
• Two and a Half Men (CBS, 9pm):  “Alan considers early retirement when Evelyn offers to foot the bill for Jake’s college education.” After looking at his latest 401K statement, he then realizes that retirement won’t come anytime soon.
• The Hills (MTV, 10pm):  “Whitney interviews for a job in New York City.” Top resume skill: Able to effectively communicate in short sentences.

Monday Ratings: No ‘Dancing’ For ABC on Monday

With powerhouse Dancing With The Stars now gone, Monday night’s ratings were fair game.  Last night CBS and NBC had a share of the spoils.

8pm

• A Charlie Brown Christmas (3.1/8 in 18-49 demo) averaged 9.3 million Peanuts fans.
• A new episode of Chuck (3.2/8) drew about 8.4 million.
• A House* repeat (2.7/7) still scored 8.3 million.
• How I Met Your Mother* (2.2/6) rounded up 6.59 million; The Big Bang Theory* (2.5/6) saw 6.77 million.
• Everybody Hates Chris (1.89 million, 0.8/2) and Aliens in America* (1.59 million, 0.7/2) were both down from last week.

9pm

• A Two and a Half Men* repeat (4.0/9 in 18-49) topped the hour with 12.32 million.  Rules of Engagement (3.4/7) followed up with 10.43 million.
• The Heroes ender (11.1 million, 5.0/11) had the night’s best demos.
• Without DWTS, Samantha Who? (2.9/6) dropped 40% to 7.53 million.  Notes from the Underbelly (5.5 million, 2.3/5) lost 33%.
• About 4.82 million watched a new episode of K-Ville (1.5/3).
• Girlfriends* (0.7/2) closed off the hour with 1.74 million; The Game* (0.8/2) did slightly better with 1.87 million.

Tuesday Ratings:  ABC Wins the Disco Ball

Dancing With the Stars’ two-hour finale was last night’s big ticket.  The show helped ABC nudge past FOX in both viewers and demos.

8pm

• NCIS (3.3/9 in 18-49 demo) topped the hour with 17 million.
• About 13.6 million welcomed A Charlie Brown Christmas (4.6/12).
• Bones (9.6 million, 3.4/9) was up about 1 million from last week.
• The Biggest Loser (7.2 million, 3.1/8) lost about 300,000 lbs.
• Beauty and the Geek (2.52 million, 1.3/3) remained about even.

9pm

• A whopping 24.9 million watched Helio win on Dancing With The Stars (6.4/15 in 18-49 demo).
• House (16.9 million, 7.0/16) still had control of the hour’s demos.
• The Unit (10.48 million, 2.9/7) was steady with last week.
• Reaper (2.26 million, 1.1/2) was up about 400,000.

10pm

• Law and Order: SVU (4.6/12) closed the night with 12.3 million.
• Cane (6.5 million, 1.6/4) was only 1/2 as successful as its NBC competitor.
