TBS Makes a Hit…or Mistake?

TBS

Get Smart. Indiana Jones. Re-making old classics is the latest trend on movies…so why can’t the same technique be applied to TV? I’ll admit - I’m a huge fan. Any game, any time, I play along and I usually do quite well. True TV game-players know where the best action can be found: GSN. But in this age of old-is-new, where past ideas are suddenly no longer passé, the classics come alive. In this case, it’s Match Game.

A show with a long history that just got a little bit longer. Match Game originally hit the air in 1962 on NBC, running for seven seasons before cancellation. This is not the most famous version of the show. Match Game didn’t hit its real stride until it found a home on CBS in 1973. The episodes have resulted in some of the most popular programming GSN has ever ran, and for good reason.

I can summon this up for you in just two words: Richard Dawson.

An Interview with “Without Prejudice” Host Dr. Robi Ludwig

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Games, Prime Time, Reality, Cable, Features

Robi LudwigFamed psychotherapist Dr. Robi Ludwig is part host, part counselor, and part mediator in her role on GSN’s Without Prejudice, an intriguing new show I had the opportunity to watch recently. The show is scheduled to premiere on GSN this Tuesday at 9pm ET, and it’s an event you won’t want to miss.. In this interesting twist on the standard reality TV show format, five strangers will compete for the chance to win $25,000. They will be judged, on looks and personality alone, by a panel of five judges – also strangers. Round by round, more information is revealed about each of the contestants, as they are slowly whittled down to only two. Dr. Ludwig guides the footage, and the discussion that results among the judges, often listening quietly until her expertise is needed. Without Prejudice explores the political topics that cause debate among world leaders and legislatures today, and asks a question that many wouldn’t dare: can we judge each other, Without Prejudice? Judges are treated to camera interviews of each contestant, as well as some hidden camera footage that sheds new light on those vying for the $25,000 prize. After watching the compelling first episode, I got the chance to speak with Dr. Ludwig via phone for a one-on-one interview.

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Games, Prime Time, Cable, News

GSN LogoThe Game Show Network is bringing another original game show to cable this summer with Camouflage, a hidden word game show that’s a mixture of trivia and word puzzles. GSN has had mixed success with their original programming, enjoying hits like Lingo and Chain Reaction, while suffering through failures like Starface and That’s the Question. Now, Roger Lodge will try his hosting hand on the network for games.

Lodge is recognizable from his hosting duties on Blind Date, though he’s also hosted a live stage version of The Price is Right in Atlantic City and Trivial Pursuit on ESPN. After seven years, Lodge’s Blind Date duties are over, making him ripe to join other hosts who have tried their hands at GSN games. Camouflage is scheduled to premiere July 2 at 7:30pm.
